[Update, Jan 16] Nintendo has just released a trailer to promote the Super Nintendo World theme park that is set to open this summer inside Osaka's Universal Studios Japan. In the video we see various people enjoying Mario games before they are transported to Nintendo land, and they are each equipped with a Mario watch that's connected to their smartphones. We hope this means the theme park will have some cool augmented reality features.

The video portrays Super Nintendo World as a lively, vibrant place populated with the brand's iconic game characters including Yoshi, Mario, Princess Peach, Goombas, Koopa Troopers, and Piranha Plants. The trailer not only hints on the theme park's layout – which looks like a real-life version of a Mario game level – it even teases some of the new attractions, ie a go-kart race against Bowser as well as an adorable Yoshi ride.

Hot on the heels of Japan's first official Nintendo store, which opened in Shibuya Parco on November 22, the Mario franchise has also announced a new project in Osaka – Universal Studios Japan will be opening its 'Super Nintendo World' just before the 2020 Olympics

The new attraction is based on Nintendo's Mario Kart and Yoshi games, and hence will be featuring plenty of fan-favourite elements such as Princess Peach's pink castle and the massive fortress of Bowser, plus a couple of Piranha Plants popping out of tubes, Goomba mushrooms climbing up hills and the head of a Super Mushroom.

You can expect a real-life version of the ever-popular Mario Kart game as well as an adorable Yoshi ride, both of which will be bringing your favourite game characters to life. What’s more, you can upgrade your Nintendo collection at the on-site souvenir shops and look forward to dining at the Mario-themed restaurant.

Plans for a collaboration between Nintendo and Universal Studios Japan were announced back in 2015. It’s been a while, but looking at the recently released concept art, we think it will be worth the wait.

We will keep you posted on any updates regarding Universal Studio Japan's Super Nintendo World.
