ロンドン東部、ブリックレーンから少し入ったところに建つパブ、ザ プライド オブ スピタルフィールズ（The Pride of Spitalfields）にいる看板猫、レニーを知っているだろうか。レニーは「おそらく」イーストエンドで一番有名な猫で、毎日ここで過ごし、客たちにじゃれついていた。ニックネームは「パブの主」、ハッシュタグでは「#LennyThePubCat」と呼ばれ、ファンクラブも持つほどの人気者だ。

Sad to report the death of our dear friend Lenny, guvnor of the Pride of Spitalfields, Heneage St. He was born in Liverpool but would never admit to being a Scouser—he was Frank Butcher come back as a cat, lording it for almost 20 years in Spitalfields with proper East End gusto: welcoming, wry, often overfed, no one’s fool, moving for no man. A legend, who I’m sure has fucked off up the road for a salmon beigel and is now ready to begin a new life haunting the bastards who tear up his neighbourhood. He was one of us.
