Just because you want to travel on a budget, it doesn’t mean your opportunities are limited – there’re plenty of affordable travel destinations to visit this year.
And the same goes for the most budget-reliant demographic of society: students. Though studying often means your bank account really takes a beating, there are plenty of places you can head to for some not-so-spenny holidays, and UNiDAYS have brought us a round-up.
The platform’s 2024 index study has evaluated everything from hostel prices to beer prices, as well as safety rating, average meal cost, the price of a one-way transport ticket, the number of group activities, and the population of international students.
So, where ranked as the best place to travel as a student for this year? That would be Tbilisi, the lovely Georgian capital, which scored 7.32 out of 10. The average cost of a pint here is just £1.87 (€2.19), and the majority of its attractions are pretty close together, making it easy to explore the city on foot.
In second place, it was Lisbon, which ranked well for safety, and in third, it’s Yerevan in Armenia aka ‘the Pink City’ – a meal here costs just £7.18 (€8.41). However, this list is by no means just a cheap-sheet. Reykjavik claims spot number five, and though it’s notoriously unaffordable, you can’t argue that those geothermal pools look like a pretty good spot to detach from your exam stress.
