Time Out says

The physical outpost of Time Out Tokyo's online empire brings a dash of cosmopolitan class to the Ebisu area – and it's a great hangout, too. Housed in the upstairs floor of key live venue Liquidroom, Time Out Café & Diner offers an ideal spot for lazy lunches, coffee sessions and meetings alike. The interior is a pitch-perfect imitation of a New York loft eatery, with skylights nestled in the exposed ceilings, and a mixture of armchairs and more conventional seating, complete with a large central table that's ideal for bigger gatherings. Order up some international grub from the open-plan kitchen – specialities include the hearty pastrami sandwich and the mouth-watering Yatsugatake Premium Burger – and browse the library of Time Out books and magazines from around the globe. Alternatively, knock back a cappuccino, Chimay beer or cocktail, then check out the latest exhibition in the adjacent Kata gallery. And did we mention that we also have free Wi-Fi? We're nice like that.

Time Out Café & Diner Anniversary Party

Come over to Ebisu and join us for Time Out Café & Diner's 15th anniversary celebration this month. This party will span four live music nights between April 19 and May 5, with a host of local artists performing an eclectic mix of genres. The opening night, for instance, will feature singer and record producer Tofubeats, as well as Harashima ‘Domannaka’ Sorayoshi. On April 20, singer-songwriter Satomoka will take the stage with Gusokumuzu – a four-person band that’s been making waves in the J-pop scene since their debut last year. The next day, April 21, features a hip-hop heavy line-up with acts like Japanese band C.O.S.A., rapper Campanella, In-d and Issugi. To wrap things up on May 5, there will be a minimal disco house night featuring the familiar faces of the NF crew, including Keiichi Ejima (Sakanaction/NF) and Shotaro Aoyama (Hyogu/NF), plus YonYon, Dr. Pay, and Samo (Fullhouse). It's a golden opportunity for one last dance during Golden Week. Tickets for the opening night are available for ¥1,500 at the door, but you'll get a discount if you show up before 9pm.  Tickets for April 20, April 21 and May 5 are available for booking online, with discounts available for those who purchase in advance.

Tokyo Beats & Brews

Tokyo's jazz culture is constantly evolving, taking on new forms and incorporating diverse influences to create new sounds. And Time Out Tokyo's signature music event Beats and Brews aims to capture this dynamic scene by bringing together jazz aficionados and leading performers for a live show emblematic of Tokyo's vibrant nightlife. For our third edition of the event, we have resident musicians Shu Akimoto on drums and Yuki Atori on bass. Both are former members of two prominent Japanese bands: Naruyoshi Kikuchi's DC/PRG and Styles of Radical Will. They will be collaborating with guest musician Yusuke Sase on trumpet, jamming together to create various styles of live performance ranging from solo and duo to group. Expect lots of improvisation, much like in New York's famed 1970s Loft Jazz scene.  Moreover, as Tokyo's world-famous bars have become one of the city's top attractions, Beats & Brews will feature an element from Tokyo's exciting bar scene. So you can look forward to two quintessential Tokyo experiences – music and drinks – on one night in one place.  On the 'Brew' side of the event, we have Fumimoto Brewery. This boutique sake maker may be the smallest of its kind in Kochi prefecture, but it's a well-established brewery with 120 years of history. More importantly, Fumimoto is known for its innovation, particularly for its sake pouches (as opposed to the usual glass bottles) with labels designed in collaboration with local artists.  On this jazzy evening, you can e
