Review

Located a 20 minute walk from Asakusa station, and about a 15 minute’s distance from the Tobu Line’s Hikifune and Narihirabashi stations this confectionary shop has an nearly 300 year history. Established in 1717, Yamamoto-ya focuses on producing sakura-mochi, the popular springtime treat made of chewy rice cake, sweet bean paste, and pickled cherry leaves. The shop makes a distinction for its sweets by wrapping the rice cakes in 2-3 leaves, ensuring a tidy package of tasty goodness. Each sakura-mochi will run you about ¥180, and it’s possible to purchase single sweets. During hanami (cherry blossom viewing) season in the spring, there is usually a line out the door of this tiny shop, and it is also possible to chow down on your rice cakes inside.
