Super Sci-Fi Tokusatsu Film Festival: Aliens Made in Japan

Spend the entire night watching delightfully retro classics of Japanese sci-fi at Ikebukuro's Shin-Bungeiza, where a total of four films will be shown between 10.30pm and 5am as part of the brilliantly named Aliens Made in Japan film festival. The selection consists of the bizarre 1956 flick Warning from Space (the Japanese title is more literal: Uchujin Tokyo ni arawaru, or 'Aliens appear in Tokyo'), complete with starfish-like aliens designed by avantgarde artist Taro Okamoto, cult favourite Goke, Body Snatcher from Hell (1968), Godzilla director Ishiro Honda's The Mysterians (1957), and Frankie's Aliens (1957), a largely forgotten flick in which eternal comedian Frankie Sakai plays a total of six starring roles. We can hardly think of a better way to spend the last weekend of August, especially if you're film a buff.
